Cost of living

People across our area are struggling through the cost of living crisis.

“We are all paying the price of Conservative failure.”

When times are tough we expect the Government to put ordinary people first and lend a hand. But the Conservatives have made all of our lives more expensive with their shambolic handling of the economy.

People in Surrey will be paying the price for years to come.

Mortgage payments and rents have rocketed but taxes have also gone up. Food gets more expensive every week. The price of heating oil and energy bills are still crippling.

“This is affecting everyone I speak to,” says Chris Coghlan. “It’s a horribly worrying time.

“ The Government are so out of touch and have no solutions - they have responded slowly and their promises to help proved to be hollow. Surrey’s Conservative MPs are not helping either - they are putting their party first and taking local voters for granted.

People coming from to the end of fixed term mortgages tell me they have no idea how they can afford an extra £500 or £1000 a month. Households see energy costs and food prices rising and nothing being done. It’s terrifying actually.

“Liberal Democrats want £1 billion investment in British farmers to promote nature-friendly farming, lessen our dependence on food imports and bring down food prices.

“We need a proper windfall tax to pay for continued support for energy bulls to homes and businesses and we need a mortgage protection fund in place, paid for by reversing tax cuts awarded to the banks.”
