Surrey Country Council announced its move to Reigate a couple of years ago. Its new headquarters at Woodhatch Place is the former Canon building. A part, of what is a large hillside site, will host Reigate’s Priory School. Next year, a new 600 place Reigate Priory Junior School will be built. Plans, so far, show a vehicle access off Cockshot Hill and a separate footpath off Hornbeam Road.
Lib Dems believe the site must be accessible by public transport. Parents walking their young children up and down Cockshot Hill, to and from the new school are going to face real hazards. Today, the poor provision for pedestrians and cyclists on the main A217 is not acceptable.
The project’s timescales are short. Nobody knows what the travel plan for the new school is going to look like. We say, whole community needs to be involved. This should not be discussed behind closed doors at County Hall.
